Priorities on advocacy

Cr Reeves said, "It was great to get together in one room with DoT's Gippsland representatives to discuss and advocate on the shire's priorities and works in the pipeline for East Gippsland."

"We discussed several priorities on our advocacy agenda, and they took the time to present to us a number of key investments in transport in regional Victoria for the 2022-23 financial year."

The items on council's advocacy agenda that were discussed included:

  • Great Alpine Road upgrade
  • Benambra-Corryong Road sealing of remaining gravel section
  • Marlo Road upgrade
  • Mitchell River Bridge duplication and improvements to the eastern approaches to Bairnsdale
  • Bullumwaal Road upgrades

Cr Reeves said they're confident these discussions will lead to outcomes for the region.

Council advocacy

Cr Reeves said, "We've already received funding commitments from the Australian Government for a couple of projects we've been advocating for and we're positive we'll be able to secure state government funding for more of these priorities in the near future."

"We're excited to be working with the DoT on these projects and many more key regional road and transportation investments in our region." Cr Reeves said.
