Incentive payments to protect native vegetation

Wellington Shire Council is offering incentives of up to $500 to landholders who make a concerted effort to protect existing native vegetation on their property, as part of its Native Vegetation Protection Program.

By Wellington Shire Council - 3rd May 2004 - Back to News

Under this initiative successful applicants will be rewarded with incentive payments for taking steps to preserve native vegetation – for example through weed control, erecting fences to protect vegetation from stock and through effective property planning.

Further information and application forms can be obtained by telephoning Wellington Shire Council’s Environmental Planner Colleen Murphy on 1300 366 244.

Landowners who feel they meet the criteria for the incentive need to lodge an application form with the council by 11 May 2004.

Native vegetation includes all plants that are indigenous to Victoria (species that occurred naturally within the state before European settlement) including trees, shrubs, herbs and grasses.
