Community marks one year since Newhaven Jetty closure, renews call for government action and reopening plan
Bass Coast locals marked one year since the Newhaven Jetty closure, renewing calls for urgent government action, funding, and a clear reopening timeline for the much-loved community asset.
The Bass Coast community has come together in a solemn occasion to mark the 1st anniversary of the Newhaven Jetty's closure. Residents and The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath have reiterated the need for the Allan government to repair and reopen the Newhaven Jetty.
Melina Bath urged action on the jetty's anniversary, demanding reconstruction plans and funding to prevent another year of closure

Ms Bath said locals remain resolute in their demand for better collaboration on a way forward. "I stand with residents who are calling for funding and a timeline for this much-loved asset's reopening. It is highly disappointing that despite a strong campaign the community is still being kept in the dark."
"While political pressure from The Nationals has forced Labor to conduct an engineering inspection, there is still no word on the jetty's future. Leaving the Newhaven Jetty to disintegrate behind mesh fencing is unacceptable," said Ms Bath. Ms Bath used the 1st anniversary of the jetty's closure to call for action. "Recent structure inspections must lead to a pathway for funding and reconstruction.
"Bass Coast locals deserve to know that they won't be back here standing in front of a locked barrier again in another years' time, commiserating a second year of closure. I congratulate residents on their commitment to saving the Newhaven Jetty and will remain standing with them," she said.
