Harriet Shing MP: More Services along the Gippsland LineImproved train frequency and reliability with a redesigned timetable effective early next year. By Portal Admin - 13th December 2020 - Back to News Passengers at stations along the Gippsland line will see improved train frequency and reliability, with a redesigned timetable to take effect from early next year as Victorians get back onto the public transport network.
Harriet Shing today announced the Victorian Government’s train timetable redesign that will deliver an extra 22 services stopping at Trafalgar, Yarragon, Longwarry, Bunyip, and Nar Nar Goon every week.
The new timetable is just the start of the Government’s major improvements along the Gippsland line – with the Gippsland Line Upgrade delivering faster, more frequent services all the way to Bairnsdale.
Final works are now underway on the new Avon River Bridge in Stratford, which will increase train speeds to 90km/h rather than the 10km/h they have been forced to cross the bridge at for many years.
The upgrade will also deliver more off-peak services along the line by building second platforms and track at four stations, a crossing loop extension at Morwell, as well as level crossing and signalling upgrades along the line.
To make sure regional Victorians beyond the train lines can better access their closest train stations, V/Line coaches will be re-coordinated with the new timetable in January – while Melbourne buses will gradually be brought in line with the new trains in February and April next year.
To keep passengers safe, extra cleaning of all public transport facilities will continue across the network and hand sanitising facilities will stay at key stations and stops. Victorians are reminded to play their part in keeping our state safe by always wearing a mask on public transport, practising good hygiene and never travelling when unwell.
The new timetables will be available at ptv.vic.gov.au from 8 January 2021.
Quotes attributable to Harriet Shing:
"Our new timetable will deliver more services for stations along the Gippsland line to give passengers more options and help them practice better physical distancing."
"Passengers on the line have even more to look forward to, with work on the Gippsland Line Upgrade delivering more services and faster train speeds for passengers all the way to Bairnsdale."
