Funding to improve access for allBass Coast businesses and community organisations are improving access for all abilities thanks to a grant from the RuralAccess program in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council and the Department of Health and Human Services.
By Portal Admin - 3rd October 2017 - Back to News Successful applicants in the 2017 Building Disability Inclusive Businesses and Community Organisations funding have now been announced and will receive up to $1,000 each to make access and inclusion improvements.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, congratulated the six recipients.
"These businesses and community groups took the time to check their premises, programs, and their immediate surrounds to identify what barriers existed and what changes could be made to improve access and inclusion of people with disability," Cr Rothfield said.
"A small capital investment to improve access and inclusion has obvious and significant social benefits.
"It is great to see this year’s focus is on addressing actual physical access, which flows on from the training and audit investments from previous rounds."
The successful applicants are:
Bass Valley Community Group Inc. – engage an accredited access consultant to undertake an access audit on their buildings and facilities
Disabled Surfing Association Bass Coast – purchase of specialised surfing equipment to improve access and participation of people with disability in ongoing surfing activities and events in Inverloch
Kilcunda General Store – installation of ramp to front entry
Phillip Island Ten Pin Bowling and Entertainment Centre – conversion of two of their off-street standard parking bays into one designated accessible bay and installation of a connecting pathway
National Vietnam Veterans Museum – installation of pathway access to view and access planes on exhibit in the Museum grounds
Prosurf Coaching – purchase of specialised surfing equipment to improve access and participation for people with disability in surf experience classes on Phillip Island
