Threats to Council Officer Lands Offender in Court

Threatening a Council Officer offender brought to Wonthaggi Magistrates Court.

By Portal Admin - 13th August 2018 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council took a number of cases to Wonthaggi Magistrates Court in July, one case had multiple charges with the most serious being threatening a Council Officer.

A Council spokesperson said "we have a responsibility to our staff and the community to ensure their safety. In this case, the offender was taken to court where the Magistrate found the dog owner guilty of having an unregistered dog, having a dog off-leash in a public place, not providing their name on request as well as threatening an authorised officer of Council."

The Magistrate made it clear in his sentencing that it was not acceptable to threaten an authorised officer of Council. The dog owner did not appear, and was convicted and fined $1,200 and ordered to pay costs. The spokesperson said that Council is pleased with the outcome of the case and that the Magistrate recognised the seriousness of the threats made towards Council Officers.
