Community invited to meeting for update on RAAF college relocation project

As a result of Wellington Shire's continuing push for the expansion of RAAF East Sale, there is to be another information session to update local residents and businesses on the transfer of the Officer Training College from Point Cook to the base.

By Wellington Shire Council - 16th September 2004 - Back to News

The session on Monday 20 September will be led by Colonel Darren Naumann, Director Project Development with the Department for Defence, Corporate services & Infrastructure. It will introduce the managing contractors and cover such aspects as the current status of the project, an update on timescales and how local businesses can get involved.

All are welcome to attend the event which is being held in the Wellington Room, Port of Sale Civic Centre, 70 Foster Street, on 20 September, starting at 7.30pm. There will be the opportunity to ask questions following a presentation and briefing. Simply turn up on the evening.

The transfer of the College was confirmed publicly by the Federal Government last year, with the Council’s push for RAAF East Sale greatly assisted by the invaluable support of a committee of local community representatives – formed to lobby for its expansion.

Said Wellington’s new Mayor Jeff Amos: "We welcome this meeting which will provide a very useful update on progress made regarding the relocation of the Officer Training College, following on from the last information session held in April.

"It will be a great opportunity for local residents and businesses to get a clear indication of how well the transfer of the Officer Training College is progressing, including the start date for construction work, as well as to appreciate the long term benefits to our economy."

RAAF East Sale already brings substantial economic benefits to Wellington Shire and Gippsland, representing around $20 million a year. The transfer of the Officer Training College will help further enhance the prosperity of the region long into the future.
