Update On Gippsland Fires

Overnight drizzle and mist on the fireground at Blue Rock dam near Tanjil South have dampened the intensity of the fire and meant little change in size

This has allowed crews to do some good work preparing fire lines for backburning operations, particularly on the northern and southern edges of the fire.

Incident Controller, Ben Rankin said that backburning is planned for this afternoon if conditions are favourable.

"Bulldozers will continue to strengthen the break along Merv's Track and Mount Carmel Road before commencing the burn," Mr Rankin said.

"Local communities that are likely to be affected by smoke from the backburning operations will be briefed prior to ignition. Residents to the east and south of the area could see large amounts of smoke from the back burning operations as winds are light and moving to the west."

At the Patrol Road fire east of Neerim South, mop up, blacking out and patrol are continuing.

Most crews have been released from the Flaggy Creek fireground near Bairnsdale, leaving local crews to patrol and monitor the area.
