The delegation will concentrate on food and food processing interests in Baw Baw and Jiujiang.

A highlight for the delegation will be the signing of a memorandum of understanding on trade, education and tourism.

"We have already had a government delegation from Jiujiang and two school exchanges so far this year, "says Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ruth McDonald.

"It is recognised that any successful relationship with China takes time to build as a lot of value is placed on building trust and friendships.

A special honour for the delegation is an invitation to the Provincial Congress, which is the equivalent of a state parliament.

"We have put a number of years slowly building our relationship," said Cr McDonald.

"It is now becoming apparent that we have earned some respect for these efforts and the relationship is starting to blossom."

Civic and business people participating tin the visit include Council representatives Mayor Ruth McDonald, Cr John Daniels, CEO Glenn Patterson, and Council officer Lois Pratt. Baw Baw business people participating include Phillipa Beeson, David O’Neill, Gary Surman and Mark Millis.

Other highlights of the itinerary include a meeting with the Consul-General in Shanghai, meeting with Mayor of Jiujiang for discussions on the future development of the sister city relationship, particularly in the area of cultural exchange, plus visits to local enterprises and schools.

Participants in the delegation are paying their own airfares and any other any other travel costs incurred.
