Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking government funding for the project, which will play a vital role in creating a link from Inverloch to Wonthaggi to Cape Paterson, and beyond.

Townsend Ward Councillor, Jordan Crugnale, said the Surf Parade shared path was the highest priority for footpath networks in Inverloch and was consistent with Council’s plan to improve bicycle infrastructure.

"The footpath will not only complete the foreshore path from the Angling Club to the surf life saving club and through to the end of Surf Parade, but provide our community and visitors with safe access to the foreshore," Cr Crugnale said.

"At present, seven of the 14 beach access paths along Surf Parade have limited to no visibility for pedestrians to cross the road safely to reach them. A survey I conducted last year reaffirmed the community's want for this extension.

"One of my priorities in my term as Councillor is to improve infrastructure to encourage physical activity and ensure our community can move around our town and Shire safely."

Council’s Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said residents wouldn’t be impacted by the investigation works, but would notice surveyors on ground undertaking assessments over a six week period.
