The Phillip Island Children’s Hub is set to come to fruition after Bass Coast Shire Council was successful in securing state government funding of $1 million for the first stage of the project.

By Bass Coast - 22nd October 2010 - Back to News

Bass Coast Mayor, Peter Paul, said the funding ensured a boost to early childhood education on the Island.

"We’re very excited about this announcement," said Cr Paul.

"Councillors, officers and Hub partners have been working extremely hard to secure funding and this is fantastic news.

"I’d like to congratulate all partners, UnitingCare Gippsland, PICAL (Kid’s House), Cowes Primary School and Bass Coast Community Health.

"The Hub will deliver high quality, integrated services including long day care, three and four year old kinder, maternal and child health, allied health and other specialist family and children’s services," continued Cr Paul.

The total cost of the project is just over $2.9 million. Bass Coast Shire Council will provide the remaining $1.9 million.

The Hub will be co-located at the Cowes Primary School, providing strong pathways between early years and school.

"We expect to put the project out to tender in the coming months," said Cr Paul.

"Partners will be working hard to complete construction and open the Hub before the school year starts in February 2012.

"This is great news for Bass Coast and families on Phillip Island."
