Community meeting to discuss future of Tyers bridge amid concerns of ongoing flooding on 16 January 2024
Martin Cameron will host a community meeting tomorrow to address concerns about the Tyers bridge and discuss flooding issues. Residents are invited to share their insights.
The Nationals Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, will host a community meeting to discuss the future of the Tyers bridge tomorrow night. After recent rain and the subsequent closure of the new bridge, locals are concerned the causeway will continue to flood unless the underlying issues are addressed. "Residents are understandably very frustrated that even after all the public consultation the state government didn't listen to suggestions that plans for a new bridge should include lifting the road," Mr Cameron said.

Ministerial dialogue requested
Mr Cameron said, "I'm inviting Tyers residents, and anyone who is impacted by the bridge closure, to attend the community meeting tomorrow night. I've also written to the Minister for Roads and requested a meeting, so I'll take the community's concerns and suggestions to that meeting so the Minister can hear directly from the people who are impacted by this.
"It's simply not good enough that it took more than eight years for the state government to deliver this bridge, and it's an absolute debacle that after all that time they still couldn't get it right. We need to go back to the drawing board to address the issue of flooding across the road and causeway, and this needs to be informed by people who know the region best - locals," he said.
The Tyers bridge community meeting will be held tomorrow night, Tuesday 16th January at 6pm at the Tyers Recreation Reserve. For more information phone 5133 9088 or email martin.cameron@parliament.vic.gov.au.
