The Candlelight Vigil is an opportunity to come together as a community, reflect and take a stand against family violence.
Latrobe City Council in partnership with Gippsland Women's Health invited the community to a Candlelight Vigil to remember the women and children lost to family violence across our community and Australia. Gippsland has some of the highest rates of family violence in Victoria. The Candlelight Vigil will be held on Wednesday 4 May at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) from 6.30pm with tea and coffee following the proceedings.

Solidarity and consideration
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said the Candlelight Vigil was a time for reflection, solidarity and a time to consider how we can make a collective impact. "Family violence has a significant impact on our community. It dislocates the lives of families which are affected and also their friends, neighbours, community groups and workplaces."
"We hope our community will join us to take a moment to recognise those we have lost to family violence and consider how we can break the silence, speak out about violence and provide support to those who need us," said Cr O'Callaghan. Additional support services are provided through Safe Steps on 1800 015 188 and 1800 Respect on 1800 737 732.
