Passenger Train Five-Year Anniversary This Saturday: Ingram

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, today extended an invitation for community members to join in celebrations this Saturday to mark the five-year anniversary of the return of passenger rail to Stratford and Bairnsdale on May 2.

Mr Ingram said increased patronage on the train during its five years was testament that the community had embraced the service.

"It’s hard to believe that five years have passed since the train was returned to the Stratford – Bairnsdale line, and the statistics prove that residents have embraced their passenger train and are utilising the service with great enthusiasm," Mr Ingram said.

"A community celebration has been organised at the Bairnsdale Rail Station on Saturday from 10.30am until 1.30pm and I urge community members to come along and help mark the occasion.

"There will be a barbecue provided by the Red Cross and a display of rail memorabilia organised by the Save Our Train Community Action Group and V/Line, with the special train expected to arrive around 11.20am.

Mr Ingram said he regarded the return of the passenger train as one of the most positive community achievements for the region during his term as the Member for Gippsland East.

"This is a busy weekend of events for the region, including the East Gippsland Field Days on Friday and Saturday, but I urge the community to drop into the rail, share a sausage and help commemorate this important occasion," Mr Ingram concluded.
