Two Local Learn Organisations Receive Share Of Funding

Two Latrobe Valley Learn Local organisations have received a share of over $65,000 through Round 3 of the State government’s Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board Capacity and Innovation Fund,

announced today by Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe.

Round 3 of this funding has provided $16,044 for Art Resource Collective Inc Yinnar (ARC) and $50,000 for Community College Gippsland (CCG) to help them better serve the needs of learners in the Latrobe Valley region.

Mr Northe said the grants help adult community education Learn Local organisations such as ARC Yinnar and CCG to expand their services, improve efficiency, offer new courses and increase the participation and attainment of learners.

"ARC Yinnar’s Creative and Sustainable Design Course Development will give the learner industry knowledge, creative art skills and pathways to further training.

"Using the expertise and networks of ARC Yinnar’s Certificate IV TAA trainers and partnerships with GippsTAFE; learners will have improved skills for the workplace at the completion of the modules and will be prepared for further study in related accredited courses.

"CCG’s project, Foundation Skills for Gippsland Workers will develop closer links with Skilling the Valley Industry Link Officers to identify and engage businesses in Gippsland whose workforces require improved foundation skills, including literacy and numeracy skills.

"CCG will develop training partnerships with businesses to assess the literacy and numeracy needs of their workers and to outline the foundation skills training requirements for their workforce.

"As a knowledge-driven economy, Victoria will increasingly need a workforce with higher levels of qualifications and skills. Through these funds the Learn Local organisations in our region are further enhanced to supply this education and training.

"The projects of ARC and CCG are commendable, and I congratulate them on these fantastic initiatives," said Mr Northe.

Each year the state’s 310 Learn Local organisations provide education and training to more than 95,000 people, offering vocational, language, literacy and numeracy and work-skill courses.

In the 20 years that the community-based adult education sector has been recognised in Victoria by legislation, these organisations have helped countless thousands of people to an education and employment pathway.
