Community Satisfaction Survey Results Are In
Year-on-year improvements with 2019 Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey.
Bass Coast Shire Council has continued to show year-on-year improvements with its performance according to the local community, with increased results across the majority of the measures in the 2019 Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey.
The annual survey was completed by 801 resident and non-resident ratepayers during February this year. The survey assesses the performance of Council across a range of measures and highlights areas that Council should focus on for improvement.
Council’s overall performance score increased to 54 in 2019, up by one-point on last year’s results.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said while most of the survey results show year-on-year improvements, some were still lower than the average rating for councils state-wide and in the Large Rural group, which includes Bass Coast.
"Council has had a busy year, focussed on delivering quality outcomes for the community. This also includes a major push in advocating the community’s priorities to government where we have had some great results," Cr Tessari said.
"This year, our scores for customer service and sealed local roads went up the most, with five and six point increases respectively, while community consultation and overall council direction fell one and four points respectively.
"The results of the survey show Council is on the right path, but there is always plenty of room for improvement."
The 2019 survey results showed:
- Bass Coast’s most improved measure in 2019 is sealed local roads, with a score of 53 which is a six-point improvement on the previous year
- Community consultation and engagement is an area earmarked for improvement with a score of 51, a one-point reduction on the 2018 score
- Council has again performed best in the area of Customer Service, which this year has a score of 70, a five-point improvement on the 2018 result
- Advocacy and making community decisions both showed an increase in satisfaction on the previous year
- People aged 18 to 34 years, non-resident ratepayers and Bunurong Ward residents are the most satisfied with Council’s overall performance, while people aged 35 to 64 and Island Ward residents are the least satisfied
