Changes on grants and sponsorship programs facilitated to cover important social, health, wellbeing, cultural and economic outcomes.

Latrobe City Council has opened its community grants and sponsorship programs. Changes have been made to expand some categories as well as offering new funding opportunities, with an additional round of funding across the year.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the grants and sponsorship programs facilitated important social, health, wellbeing, cultural and economic outcomes.

"Over the years, community groups, social and recreational clubs, sporting teams and community event organisers have received funding to make infrastructure improvements to club rooms, change facilities and kitchens, buy much-needed equipment or develop newsletters, and access promotional and marketing opportunities for their events and activities. Enhancements to community infrastructure are also significant," Cr Clancey said.

"The outcomes delivered by this program are fundamentally about community, connectedness, accessibility and strengthening the fabric of Latrobe City – our people.

"There are also community and individual sponsorships available. A new opportunity, the Community Sponsorship grant, is aimed at helping community groups deliver significant programs or events in Latrobe City. And for children or individuals, there are a range of sponsorships designed to encourage recipients to realise their goals of participating in their chosen field.

"Council invests significantly through the grants program because of the local community benefit and Council values the contribution that groups and individuals make in our community."

The pandemic hasn’t prevented Latrobe City Council from opening the program, but as Cr Clancey notes, it has presented a challenge in being able to offer the usual information sessions.

"While we aren’t able to offer our normal face to face sessions, we will however be running virtual sessions where members of the community can take part via Zoom," he said.

"Sessions are free to attend, but registration is required. There are multiple repeat sessions to ensure everyone who wants to attend, can do so. A recording of the session will be available for those unable to participate.

"We are always delighted to see the breadth of applications that come in. It tells us that Latrobe City is a versatile, diverse, innovative and supportive community."
