Mayor’s Message

South Gippsland Shire Council has joined a national local government effort to aid international relief in the wake of the tsunami disaster that has ravaged our Asian neighbours.

By South Gippsland Shire Council - 7th January 2005 - Back to News

I urge residents to visit Council’s website at www.sgsc.vic.gov.au and donate to their choice of appeals via the Australian Giving Centre link.

The Australian Giving Centre has collected more than $2 million in the past four days for licensed fundraising organisations conducting appeals to support victims of the tsunami.

This tragic end to the past year has been met with an unprecedented display of generosity all around the world, and people are still seeking ways to contribute.

Residents of South Gippsland Shire Council can be assured that their donations will reach those most in need by clicking on the ‘Donate Here’ image now on our website.

The Australian Giving Centre is a secure online donation facility administered by Our Community, with support from Westpac Bank.

Our Community takes no commission or fee for this service and ensures 100% of donations reaches the group of the donator's choice (less normal bank fees)1.

Tsunami appeals registered with the Australian Giving Centre so far include Oxfam Community Aid Abroad, Save the Children Fund, CARE Australia, International Women’s Development Agency, United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Australia International Needs (Australia) and Habitat for Humanity.
