Free Vouchers With Pet Registrations

From October 1, pet owners in Bass Coast Shire who register their animals for the first time will receive a free voucher booklet.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th October 2006 - Back to News

Council’s Local Laws Team Leader, Kaye Hall said the new Pet Registration Incentive Scheme aims to increase the number of cats and dogs registered in the Shire.

"This scheme will help to reduce the number of impounded pets that have to be euthanised because they can’t be identified and returned to their owners."

Ms Hall said the vouchers, worth approximately $40 in total, include discounts on a range of pet and lifestyle related products and services.

"Pets are a great part of life, offering companionship and other benefits, however, owners have to remember having a pet comes with responsibilities.

"It’s a State Government regulatory requirement that every cat and dog three months of age and over must be registered with Council."

Registering your pets, said Ms Hall, means they can be returned safely to you if they become lost.

"Your fees also help fund animal control and welfare services, along with community and school education programs about responsible pet ownership," she said.

"If you do not comply with registration requirements you can be fined."

To take out a new pet registration and get your free voucher booklet, contact Bass Coast Shire on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311 or visit the Council website www.basscoast.vic.gov.au
