MICA Paramedics Skills Must Be Recognised In EBA: Ingram

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, has called on the State Government to recognise the skills, training and professionalism of Victoria’s MICA paramedics in the current Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) process.

Mr Ingram said there must be a clear and definable career structure and pay scale available to paramedics, rewarding those who have improved their skills and qualifications in the interest of better servicing the needs of the community," Mr Ingram said.

"Over recent months I have met with paramedics from across Gippsland, including road and air crews to discuss their ongoing concerns.

"The current pay scale offer as part of the EBA does not recognise that those who improve their skills should be rewarded.

"The training and skills that paramedics undertake is essential for the ongoing improvements to public safety and should be recognised through the appropriate pay scale.

"If the most skilled paramedics are not rewarded for their training and skill advancement, we will see more disenfranchising of MICA paramedics.

"There is no incentive for these trained and well qualified health professionals to improve their skills or stay within the Victorian state system.

"As anyone who has had the unfortunate first-hand experience will tell you, ambulance paramedics are much more than just emergency transport to and from hospitals.

"In Gippsland, we value the availability of quality ambulance services across the region, including the MICA air service, and their qualifications are essential for the safety of the region," Mr Ingram concluded.
