Local businesses of all sizes will have a rare opportunity to hear from a leading business innovator when Latrobe City hosts a talk by Dan Gregory as part of the Gippsland Small Business Festival next month.

Gregory is the co-founder and CEO of The Impossible Institute, an organisation that advises management and sales departments on what drives their customers and employees.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, councillor Michael Rossiter, said it was exciting to have such a well-regarded strategist speak at a Latrobe City venue. Cr Rossiter encouraged small businesses to make the most of this rare opportunity to attend one of Gregory’s creative presentations.

"Dan has 20 years’ experience in communications and marketing, has worked with the biggest global brands and won countless awards around the world for creativity, effectiveness and return on investment," Cr Rossiter said.

"He is well-known for his engaging and humorous presentation style. You may have seen him on ABC’s The Gruen Transfer or watched one of his stand-up comedy acts.

"Dan will explore what makes consumers buy and buy in, identifying the key driver to all human behaviour and explaining why one size doesn’t fit all."

Gregory said small business has an incredible competitive advantage - they could be more agile and responsive than "big, bloated corporations".

"Today, small businesses can compete with the big end of town. The digital revolution has allowed share of voice to go to the most dedicated," Gregory said.

The Gippsland Small Business Festival is a series of events and workshops held during August aimed to inspire and upskill small to medium businesses.

The festival is coordinated by the six Gippsland Councils in conjunction with Small Business Victoria.

"Of the 4,250 active businesses in Latrobe City some 3,600 have just four employees or fewer, or around 85 per cent," Cr Rossiter said.

"Small businesses are so important to our local economy and Council is pleased to offer opportunities such as the events in this festival to encourage them to thrive."

‘Drive what makes us buy in and buy out with Dan Gregory’ runs from 7am to 9am on Tuesday, 23 August at Century Inn, 5 Airfield Road, Traralgon. Gregory will also be presenting at Bairnsdale, Sale, Warragul, Leongatha and Phillip Island.

Tickets are $25 per person, which includes a hot breakfast.
