Ingram To Present Knob Reserve Petition Today

The Independent Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, will present a petition to Parliament today signed by over 1500 Stratford and district residents,

calling for the community-appointed Committee of Management to be reinstated to manage future use of The Knob Recreation Reserve.

Mr Ingram said the petition was initiated late last week after the Department of Sustainability and Environment wrote to Stratford Pony Club refusing permission to hold the annual gymkhana at the site.

"The DSE reversed the decision at a meeting that I attended with community members on Monday, but there is great ongoing concern that this is the start of preventing future recreational activities at the site," Mr Ingram said.

"The community approached me to initiate a petition late last week and 1508 signatures were gathered in just a few days, enabling me to present it on the last sitting day for this Parliament.

"The Knob Reserve is an important community facility and has been well managed for over a century by the community. "Now they are being punished for their positive and proactive management of the environmental and cultural heritage of the site. "Clearly this is part of a bigger agenda by DSE to remove community events from the reserve and I will continue to work with the Stratford and district community to ensure The Knob remains open for recreational use," Mr Ingram concluded.
