Solar panels installed at Council HQ
157 additional solar panels (45.53kW) at Latrobe City Council’s Morwell corporate headquarters
Over the weekend local organisation Gippsland Solar installed 157 additional solar panels (45.53kW) at Latrobe City Council’s Morwell corporate headquarters.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that the building was the largest electricity user out of all Council’s facilities.
"These additional panels are an extension to the existing 112 panel (29.12 kW) grid-connected rooftop solar system that was installed in December 2016. It brings the total HQ system up to 269 solar panels (74.65 kW).
"We will now have maximum generation from the available roof space," Cr White said.
"Optimisers will be used on one of three rows to reduce the shading impacts from the building’s roof design. Optimisers reduce shading impacts by individually "tracking" each module.
Cr White added that the installation of solar panels was a statement on the value Council placed on saving the rate payer money.
"We are also embracing green technology and working with a local supplier. It will take around five years from installation until savings pay off the $56,250 initial investment. This additional system will provide more than $206,000 cumulative savings in electricity costs over 15 years.
"Installation was organised over the weekend to provide minimum disruption to business and trade in Commercial Road," Cr White concluded.
