New Home for Squash In The Latrobe Valley
Latrobe City Leisure Centre in Churchill will be upgraded to become the home of squash in the Latrobe Valley.
The Latrobe City Leisure Centre in Churchill will be upgraded to become the home of squash in the Latrobe Valley thanks to funding provided by the Victorian Government.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced Latrobe City Council has received a $472,963 Community and Facility Fund grant through the Latrobe Valley Authority (LVA) to upgrade the Leisure Centre to host competitive and social squash players.
Two existing squash courts will be refurbished, while two additional courts will also be constructed. The upgraded facility will service more than 120 competitive and social squash participants from across Latrobe City and Victoria.
The project also includes a refurbishment of the existing kitchenette and meeting space for squash players and visitors.
The Leisure Centre in Churchill is located next to Federation University’s Gippsland campus and will benefit a range of groups, including university students, sporting clubs and the broader Latrobe Valley community.
The squash courts will complement existing facilities at the Leisure Centre including a swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna, basketball courts and nearby hockey field.
Latrobe City Council is working closely with Squash and Racquetball Victoria and members of the local squash community to ensure their needs are met. The refurbishment of the Centre complements Squash and Racquetball Victoria’s strategy to achieve long-term hosting of the sport in Latrobe City.
More than 180 different community groups across the region are now seeing the benefits of improved facilities thanks to the Victorian Government’s Community and Facility Fund, delivered as part of the Latrobe Valley Authority’s $266 million package.
