Recycling Campaign Takes Flight

Bass Coast Shire residents are being called to get on board the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ campaign, which aims to get Australians recycling more printer cartridges.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th April 2006 - Back to News

"With 18 million printer cartridges ending up in Australia’s landfills every year, it’s important that everyone stops dumping and starts recycling their old printer cartridges," says Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin.

"Council recycles all of its printer cartridges and I hope that the public and businesses will do the same."

While Council recycles its printer cartridges through Cart Collect because the organisation donates money to Landcare, Cr Goodwin says it doesn’t matter who you use as long as you recycle.

The ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ campaign has set up special printer cartridge recycling bins in over 2,300 participating Australia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy, Dick Smith Electronics and PowerHouse stores.

The equivalent weight of 30 Boeing 737 planes has already been diverted from landfill as a result of the campaign.

Bass Coast Shire residents can drop off any kind of printer cartridge for recycling – regardless of its make or condition. Businesses wanting free cartridges recycling pickup can call 1800 24 24 73.

Businesses or individuals can also phone Cart Collect on 1800 666 018 or via their website www.cartcollect.com.au.
