Nominations for the 2022 Australia Day Awards are now open! The awards are an opportunity for community members to acknowledge an individual or group for the noteworthy contributions they have made to Baw Baw Shire.
The annual Baw Baw Shire Australia Day Awards ceremony honours and acknowledges individuals and groups who have made a noteworthy contribution and outstanding service to the local community over a number of years
Award categories
There are three award categories this year:
- Citizen of the Year - A person who has made a noteworthy contribution during the previous year, and/or given outstanding service to the community over a number of years
- Young Citizen of the Year - A person aged under 25 years who has given outstanding service to the community
Community Organisation of the Year - An organisation or group that has performed a service to the community, or raised funds for a charity, event or project
Community members who know an individual or group within Baw Baw Shire deserving of special recognition can nominate them now in one or more of the categories listed above.
Making a nomination
To make a nomination and to find out more, please visit the Australia Day Awards page on Council's website. Nominations will remain open until 5pm on Monday 22 November 2021.
Winners will be selected by a panel consisting of the Mayor, Councillors and Council officers. They will consider all eligible entries against the assessment criteria and select the most outstanding nominee in each category. Award recipients will be announced at the annual Baw Baw Shire Council Australia Day Awards ceremony in January 2022.
Recognise outstanding community contributions
Mayor Cr Danny Goss said, "Each year the Baw Baw Shire Council Australia Day Awards give residents the opportunity to recognise outstanding community contributions. Over the past year alone we have seen a number of people and groups who have gone above and beyond to support fellow residents throughout the disruptions of the pandemic."
"It is these inspiring people who make a notable difference for our community and this is the perfect platform to recognise them. I highly encourage everyone to view Council's website and take a few minutes to nominate somebody you know for the contributions they have made to Baw Baw Shire". Cr Goss said.
