Latrobe City Council Master Plan for Kay Street seeks community input to enhance facilities and growth by 9 September
Latrobe City Council is developing a Master Plan for Kay Street, Traralgon to support future growth while enhancing existing amenities. Community feedback is sought through surveys and a drop-in session on August 24, 2024.
Latrobe City Council has identified the need for a Master Plan at Kay Street, Traralgon (The Site) to allow for future growth while strategically maximising on what already exists. As part of the development of the Master Plan, council is undertaking the community consultation piece 'Thinking about Traralgon's future', to empower Latrobe City residents to actively participate and share feedback on the plan.
The Master Plan will guide The Site's transformation, focusing on sustainability, health, and connectivity, while seeking additional funding and feasibility studies
Survey and session
The consultation includes a survey on council's engagement platform Have Your Say Latrobe City, and a drop-in session at the Traralgon Farmers Market, from 8am to 1pm on Saturday 24 August 2024. Hard copy surveys can also be collected and returned at Latrobe City Council service centres and libraries.
The Plan will establish the key design principles for a long-term transformation at The Site, which is currently and will continue to be home to important services such as the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC), Traralgon Library and Maternal and Child Health Centre.
It is expected that new facilities will be identified for The Site, to meet the growing requirements and ambitions of the community. The Master Plan will focus on identifying environmentally sustainable infrastructure design, improving health services and access, and increasing connectivity and social wellbeing.
Community feedback vital
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, shared that the community's feedback is invaluable and will play a vital role in shaping the final Master Plan. "This survey provides a unique opportunity for the community to collaborate with council and create a shared vision for the Kay Street Master Plan that addresses community needs and aspirations."
"Traralgon is well-known as an industrial and commercial hub, and more recently, a growing tourism and cultural destination. I encourage Latrobe City residents to take part in this survey, as it's about shaping a future for Kay Street that truly serves and fits the needs of our entire community. It will ensure this locally prominent location is a space for everyone who lives, works, and visits here for years to come," said the Mayor.
Have your say
The desired outcome of this project is to present a document that showcases the community's vision and aspirations. After The Site's Master Plan is finalised, further work such as feasibility studies and funding research will be required, to deliver on the identified elements.
It is expected that a draft concept precinct plan, outlining the vision of The Site will be presented to council and the community by the end of 2024, with a final concept precinct plan published by mid 2025. Submissions for the survey close on Monday 9 September 2024. Learn more and have your say on the future of Kay Street, Traralgon.
