Corangamite Comes To Visit

A delegation from Corangamite Shire, consisting of councillors and council officers, visited Bass Coast last week.

During their trip, the group met with Mayor, Cr John Duscher, CEO, Allan Bawden, Steven Piasente (Infrastructure Director) and Angelo D’Costa (Development Services Manager), to discuss a range of issues.

Cr Duscher said it was a good opportunity to meet with a shire that is experiencing similar issues to Bass Coast.

"Corangamite Shire is experiencing strong growth and has a strong mix of tourism and agriculture, so they are facing many of the same challenges as us," said Cr Duscher.

"It was very beneficial to be able to talk with Mayor, Cr Ruth Gstrein, and the other councillors to find out some of the strategies they use to deal with these issues.

"I know they were particularly interested to discuss the impact of implementing the farming zones and our Rural Rebate scheme."

Cr Duscher said it was always enlightening to hear what other councils were doing.

"I think it is very important that we share ideas and experiences wherever possible," Cr Duscher explained.

"We welcome any other municipality who might want to visit our shire and meet with us."

The Corangamite group also visited South Gippsland to look at their sale yards, as they are about to build their own sale yard facility.

Along with Cr Gstrein, four councillors made the trip, as well as council officers from Economic Development, Tourism and Planning. The group included former Bass Coast Planning and Environment Director, Andrew Mason, who is now Corangamite’s Director of Sustainable Development.

Home to the Twelve Apostles, Corangamite Shire includes the towns of Terang, Camperdown, Princetown, Lismore, Port Campbell, Timboon, Cobden, Darlington, Noorat, Simpson and Derrinallum.
