FUNDING FOR REGIONAL ART

Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) is the peak regional arts organisation in Victoria and one of the State Government’s twelve major cultural organisations. For the next three years, Regional Arts Victoria will administer the Regional Arts Fund (RAF), an initiative of the Commonwealth Government, supporting the arts in regional, rural and remote Australia. The Commonwealth Government has determined the objectives and general eligibility of the fund.

The Regional Arts Fund was established to give all Australians, wherever they live, better access to opportunities to practise and experience the arts. Its objective is primarily to encourage and support cultural development by supporting art projects that encourage development through increasing professional arts skills of individuals and organisations and/or the formation of new partnerships with local government and community organisations. It also aims to increase opportunities for isolated Indigenous and/or smaller regional communities.

The objectives of the Fund are as follows;

· To encourage and support cultural development in communities. This means an emphasis upon sustainability of cultural development in regional centres, rather than one-off ‘events’.

· To encourage the formation of partnerships with local government, community groups (eg CWA), the library sector and others. These partnerships will preferably involve financial contributions or resources in-kind.

· To increase access to information regarding professional arts development skills and opportunities for people in isolated areas.

· To increase skills development initiatives, both for individuals and organisations. This might include mentoring schemes.

· To emphasise development through the arts for isolated Indigenous communities.

· To have a strong impact in smaller regional communities.

Accessing funding for art projects is difficult, particularly if you are living in regional or rural Victoria.

Regional Arts Victoria will be holding information sessions in regional locations around the State during the first week in February.

Yarram on the Tuesday 4th February at 6pm, in the ‘Pelican Room’ at the Wellington Shire Council Services Centre, 156 Grant Street Yarram. Organised with and supported by, The Wellington Shire Council.
