Bass Coast Hooks A Games Fish

Bass Coast Shire CEO, Allan Bawden, confirmed today that the Shire had received one of the fish used in the Commonwealth Games ceremonies.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 23rd June 2006 - Back to News

"Vundu represented Tanzania, Bass Coast’s adopted nation for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games," said Mr Bawden.

"The State Government has supplied the fish at no cost."

"We now need to determine what the requirements are for housing the sculpture and the most cost effective way of looking after it," said Mr Bawden.

The fish has been delivered to the Council depot in Cowes, where its condition is being assessed by staff.

Mr Bawden said that on completion of the assessment, there will be a briefing for Council.

"Once the Council have been briefed, an announcement will be made on the future of the fish," continued Mr Bawden.

"Until then, any theories on where and how Vundu might be permanently housed are simply speculation."
