Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, encouraged the community to get involved in the event by coming down and supporting the community members and groups being recognised.

"Around 500 community members are expected to take part in the Relay with over 200 individuals and organisations nominated.

"Community members can show their support just by coming down and cheering them on.

"Local community groups will be organising activities to take place in most towns when the baton passes through, but we still need more groups to get involved!" encouraged Ms Churchill.

Ms Churchill said the response from nominees had been one of surprise and honour.

"Everyone who has responded so far has said they would love to participate.

"This is the first time an event such as this has been undertaken on this scale and it will be an event to remember," Ms Churchill promised.
