Professor Ross Garnaut will return on 15 June to speak at the Latrobe Valley Carbon Future Community Conversation.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that Latrobe City was delighted to welcome Professor Garnaut back to the region.

"We were lucky enough to have had Professor Garnaut attend the inaugural meeting of Low Carbon Transition Committee meeting earlier this year to discuss Latrobe City’s Policy – Positioning Latrobe City for a Low Carbon Future and to consider our regions key challenges and opportunities.

"Following this meeting, Professor Garnaut gladly accepted an invitation to return and speak to the broader community about his work.

"We know that there are many community members in the region who wanted the chance to hear from Professor Garnaut and to join in the conversation about climate change and our region. The Low Carbon Future Community Conversation gives the community a chance to discuss climate change and the transition to a low carbon future with the renowned Government Climate Change Adviser.

"The event will be jointly hosted by Latrobe City, Monash University and Regional Development Australia and will be held at the Monash University campus," Cr White explained.

Professor Garnaut will be joined by a panel of representatives on the night including; Professor Mark Sandeman, Monash University; Mr John Parker, Gippsland Trades Labour Council; Mr Charlie Speirs, Clean Coal Victoria and Mr Richard Elkington, Regional Development Australia.

The Latrobe Valley Low Carbon Community Conversation will be held on Wednesday 15 June 2011, 6pm – 7.30pm at Monash University Gippsland, Northways Road, Churchill, Building 5N104.

Seats are limited to 200 and community members interested in attending should RSVP early to have the chance to join the conversation.
