It featured a cameo appearance by ‘The Innovator’ aka Darren McCubbin who (in a superhuman performance) tested the guests understanding of innovation. The Innovator also test drove Safetech’s revolutionary tape wrapper, which has the potential to significantly reduce landfill and waste. Not content to simply wrap a pallet of product, the death defying superhero wrapped himself!

Innovation festival organisers had originally planned on supporting up to 25 events throughout Gippsland & the Latrobe Valley, however interest has exceeded all expectations and there are over 55 events running across Gippsland. These events cover all aspects of innovation in the region including: Business, Technology, Community Development, Environment, Arts, Sport and Agriculture.

Chairperson of the Gippsland & Latrobe Innovation Festival and Latrobe City CEO, Richard Hancock, said the objective of the festival is to demonstrate the value of research, development and partnerships that benefit the region. The program includes lectures, information sessions and exhibitions that relate to Innovation across Gippsland.

Mr Hancock continued: ‘This years festival focuses on the way innovation Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley can capitalise on good ideas and then make them happen. We recognise in Gippsland that our people are our greatest resource.’

The Gippsland & Latrobe Innovation Festival is the largest innovation festival in regional Australia and has nearly half of all events being held in Victoria. Funding for the festival is being supplied through Latrobe City, AusIndustry, Baw Baw Shire and South Gippsland Shire

Mr Hancock said that the Gippsland & Latrobe Innovation Festival will be a celebration of Innovation across the region. "We are very pleased with the response from business and the community. It demonstrates that Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley really is a dynamic and innovative region," Mr Hancock said.

"Due to the terrific response to the concept within the region, the Latrobe Innovation Festival already represents over a third of the events registered in Victoria," Mr Hancock said.

Gippsland & Latrobe Innovation Festival events include: The Federation Health Gippsland Business Awards, The Gippsland Energy Summit, The Latrobe Arts Innovation Festival, Prom Country Grassroots Tour, Football for people with disabilities, Executive for a Day, Innovation in Community Safety Promotion Forum, Get Connected and ‘Innovation in Regional Development Gippsland’s Success Stories’.
