That are currently used as an unofficial bypass around the Sale township by motorists travelling the Princes Highway.

Speaking in Parliament this week, Mr Ingram called on the Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas, for VicRoads to take responsibility of the roads, which are currently managed by the Wellington Shire Council.

"VicRoads has acknowledged there are some significant safety concerns in this area, and it has upgraded the bookend intersections of Sale-Heyfield Road with the Princes Highway and the Myrtlebank Road with the Princes Highway," Mr Ingram said.

"Currently these roads are used as an unofficial bypass around Sale from Fulham through to the intersection of the Myrtlebank Road and the Princes Highway.

"Particularly concerning is the Myrtlebank Road intersection with Maffra-Sale Road and the Sale-Heyfield Road intersection with Myrtlebank Road.

"In past years there has been a major increase in traffic using this route to bypass the traffic lights and roundabouts in Sale.

"The most important upgrade needed is the intersection of Myrtlebank Road with the Maffra-Sale Road due to the large amount of heavy vehicle traffic using the route."

Mr Ingram said that many GPS units direct motorists to use this unofficial bypass when travelling the Princes Highway.

"I have called on the State Government to investigate opportunities to improve traffic flow safety and examine future planning for this bypass," Mr Ingram concluded.
