Donation Spurs Hub Development

Inverloch Community House Inc. has donated $30,000 for the construction of the new Inverloch Community Hub.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th October 2008 - Back to News

The not-for-profit community organisation presented Bass Coast Shire Council with the donation. It was made possible through savings from operational grants and program revenue.

Inverloch Community House Inc. President, Trish Parsons, said members committed to the project since it came on the agenda five years ago.

"The Inverloch Community Hub project is such a worthwhile development," Ms Parsons said.

"This type of development brings communities together and that’s what the Community House is all about."

Ms Parsons said although it had been a challenge to raise the money, the support from members, volunteers and clients had been tremendous.

"We couldn’t have done it without them," enthused Ms Parsons.

Council’s Community Services Manager, Liz Wright, was overwhelmed by the support of the Community House.

"For a community organisation to make such a commitment is truly inspiring," Ms Wright said.

"They want this as much as we do and see the benefits of a centre for the entire community."

The Inverloch Community House Inc. will relocate from its current premises in Williams Street to the new Hub. The Hub will also be home to Council’s Customer Service Centre, YMCA, Inverloch Neighbourhood House, library, Visitor Information Centre, maternal and child health and playgroup, as well as containing a community space for events and meetings.

"The Hub will be a one-stop-shop for people of all ages seeking community services and health care," Ms Wright said.

"It is being developed with nothing but the community in mind."

Concept plans for the new Hub have been finalised and Council expects to announce the builder in the next few weeks.

"We anticipate work will start at the beginning of next year and be completed by the 2009 Christmas period," Ms Wright said.

Council and the Department of Planning and Community Development are both providing the funding for the building works, which will be around $2 million.

Council is currently seeking funding for the Visitor Information Centre from Regional Development Victoria Small Towns Development Fund.
