Bass Coast Mayor, Cr John Duscher, said the conference lived up to its name.

"During the conference we heard about some really interesting initiatives happening across the region," said Cr Duscher.

"No matter which sessions delegates attended, I am sure they left feeling positive and confident about the experience and the future of indigenous culture in Gippsland.

"We heard about organisations that are encouraging disengaged youth to return to education or helping them create pathways to employment and saw fantastic artworks, dance and music from talented performers," said Cr Duscher.

Conference delegates included members from State and Federal Government agencies, members of local indigenous networks and a large representation from the koori community.

"The performance from Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter was a real highlight at the conference dinner," said Cr Duscher.

"I’d like to congratulate all those involved in organising such a fantastic event and bringing together a diverse range of speakers and presentations," concluded Cr Duscher.

Topics covered at the conference included social justice, employment and business development opportunities and cultural heritage. The conference also included a market displaying indigenous arts and crafts from across Gippsland. It is hoped that Deadly in Gippsland will become an annual event.
