Talking Volumes to the power of three!

Wellington, East Gippsland and Mitchell Shire Councils are combining a new collection of talking book CD titles to provide a huge increase in service for residents in each shire, including those with vision impairment and other reading barriers.

By Wellington Shire Council - 18th March 2005 - Back to News

The combined, free service has the potential to benefit more than 110,000 rural Victorians over an area of 350,000sq.km.

This initiative has been made possible through a State Government grant from the Victorian Department of Communities and means that a total of some 460 talking books will be accessible through 15 participating branches and three mobile libraries.

The project will also include the introduction of a formalised reservation system and printed catalogue of all available titles.

More information about this new service is available by telephoning Wellington’s Library Service on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "This council is delighted to be working in partnership with these other rural library services to bring this invaluable increase in service to our residents.

"Our shire has a very active access policy which aims to ensure all residents can utilise the council’s services and facilities. The talking book service, and other initiatives like the talking newspaper program, are consistent with our commitment to assist all residents to lead full and inclusive lives."
