School Zones Back In Action

With School Resuming On Monday, 13 July, Bass Coast Shire Council Is Reminding Motorists To Be Extra Cautious Around School Zones.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Kimberley Brown, said it is the responsibility of the entire community to ‘Talk the Toll Down’ and ensure pedestrians, especially children, are safe on our footpaths and roads.

"After two weeks without school speed zones, it can be easy to fall into bad habits and not slow down," Cr Brown said.

"We are reminding people to stop, look, listen and think when using or approaching school crossings as a pedestrian or motorist, and to pay extra attention."

Cr Brown said with wet weather on the radar, it was also important to take extra caution and allow plenty of time to stop at a crossing.

"Slow down and observe 40km speed limits and don’t be distracted whilst driving," Cr Brown said.

"Primary school children in particular are only small, so look out for them entering and exiting parked cars around schools.

"Leaving home five minutes earlier can also help you avoid unnecessary speeding and frustration around 40km school zones."

Motorists are reminded that 40km school zones apply on school days between the hours of 8.00am and 9.30am, and 2.30pm and 4.00pm
