Port Albert Snapper Fest

Wellington Shire Council is inviting the community to rig-up and cast-off at this year’s Port Albert Snapper Fest, which is being held on Sunday 31 October to celebrate these magnificent fish of the deep and mark the start of the tourist season.

The festival has been organised by local traders with council support and will run from 11am to 3pm, with activities off and on-shore for fishing enthusiasts and the whole family alike including snapper charter trips, roving entertainment and wine tasting.

Keen fisherpeople can test their skills by participating in the Offshore Snapper Fishing Contest and festival-goers can sample locally available fish and chips and other fare with a Snapper theme throughout the day.

More information is available by telephoning Wellington’s Economic Development Officer Paul Telfer on 1300 366 244.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "Port Albert is one of the shire’s most popular coastal areas and is renowned for the high quality fishing available off its shores. This festival is a great way for the local community to promote the deep sea Snapper and other local attractions the town has to offer.

"Port Albert is set to receive a major boost this coming financial year with the $980,000 Stockyard Point redevelopment project getting underway, making the area an even more attractive destination to visitors."
