Saleyard Results Outstanding

A recent intensive audit of the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange has found that implementation of the National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS) has been outstanding.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 20th September 2004 - Back to News

Results showed that 98 percent of buyers provided Property Identification codes (PID’s) and 99 percent of cattle were NLIS tagged and successfully scanned.

Department of Primary Industries Senior Animal health Officer Aileen Eccles has written to the East Gippsland Shire Council to express appreciation.

"We thank you and your local agents for your active cooperation and participation in the successful roll out of the NLIS in Victoria and for the high standards you have achieved," she wrote.

East Gippsland Shire Council’s Livestock Exchange Coordinator Terry Dervusoski said he was extremely pleased with the survey result.

"It is an indication of the excellent co-operation that exists between the buyers, sellers and agents," he said.

"The scheme allows stock to be followed ‘from the pasture to the plate’ and its importance cannot be overstated, especially when disease has to be traced."
