Ensay Recreation Reserve begins upgrades funded by Federal Community Development Grants from Black Summer bushfires

Ensay Recreation Reserve embarks on a transformative journey funded by the federal government's Community Development Grants program, featuring upgraded facilities in response to the Black Summer bushfires.

Ensay Recreation Reserve is set for a major transformation with a revitalisation project officially underway. Thanks to successful funding from the federal government's Community Development Grants program, the reserve will be upgraded with new facilities in response to the Black Summer bushfires.

Renovations and upgrades

The revitalisation works include:

• New multi-purpose facility, which includes new laundry, shower, bathroom and kitchen facilities
• Renovations to the angling club facilities
• Electrical works, including floodlights and other lighting
• New multi-sports playing surface for netball, tennis and more

The past 12 months has seen the project go through an intensive planning, design and approvals process. "Securing this funding was crucial to support the community's recovery after the devastating Black Summer bushfires," East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Tom Crook said.

Project progresses smoothly

Cr Crook also said, "I'm pleased to see the project come to life and I'm confident it will provide a significant boost to the local area. I thank community members and Federal Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester, for their significant efforts in ensuring a $2.3 million grant was made available for this project."

Contracts have now been awarded, with Bairnsdale-based firm CADBuild Construction appointed to deliver the main facility, while a suite of other local contractors will handle the remaining works. Construction has commenced, with initial activities focusing on electrical works, including the new lighting towers. The public toilet will remain accessible during the construction period. However, the playground will be closed and camping at their site will be unavailable due to the risks posed by machinery and works vehicles.

The Ensay Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, comprising local volunteers, said it appreciates the community's understanding regarding the restrictions to camping and the playground given the work activities. The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-2025.
