Discount Microchipping Weekend

East Gippsland Shire Council and Animal Aid will offer discount pet microchipping on the weekend of 17 and 18 November in Lakes Entrance, Orbost and Mallacoota.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 16th November 2007 - Back to News

The plan is to assist pet owners meet new state regulations that require all dogs and cats being registered for the first time since May 2007 to be permanently identified with a microchip.

Animal Aid veterinarian, Dr Jessica Hubbard will implant the ‘chips’ at the reduced cost of $30.00.

"Microchipping is a safe and the easiest way for lost pets to be reunited with their owners" Dr Hubbard said.

Shire manger community laws and emergency services Terry Lamshed said microchipping ensured a positive identification of animals.

"The barcode on the microchip is linked to the owner’s contact details that are recorded on the central animal records database for the life of the pet." he said.

"This means the animal has Australia-wide permanent identification and can be safely returned even if its collar or Council ID disc is missing."

Mr Lamshed said that all dogs must be brought on a lead and cats and other animals in a suitable carry cage.

Saturday, 17 November:

Rotunda Lakes Entrance 9.00 am to 12.00 pm; Forest Park Orbost 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
