Get your weekend sorted with these new Gippsland 'Village Feast' events on 19 - 20 November 2022

Take the day off, because it is categorically far more fun discovering new places and sampling the spoils of West Gippsland than working.

If you're coming from Melbourne, stop in Garfield where brunch or lunch at the cosy converted cottage, Little Miss Hangry is a must. Choose from lime curd and toasted coconut waffles, corn fritters with house kasoundi and pickled carrots, or fried halloumi and eggs with capsicum coulis and dukkah.

Kicking off the Regional Edition

Take a stroll through this gorgeous village, drenched in yesteryear vibes, and be sure to browse the shops - elegant Impodimo Gift & Living has limited-edition and handmade gifts and homewares, and boutique SOHL Store has a beautiful range of on-trend ladies' clothing.

Work off lunch on the Mt Cannibal Walk (2.3km, 45 mins). Your thigh-wearying climb is worth it from those stunning panoramas from atop the mountain.

Kicking off the Regional Edition on a roaring high, Embla x Hogget will be a city-country collaboration for the ages, with Dave Verheul joining his country cousin Trevor Perkins on the grill, and the Embla wine team making the most of the site's superb viticultural credentials.

Embla X Hogget Kitchen

The Village Feast runs 11am - 5pm, 19-20 Nov throughout the township of Thorpdale, packed with exciting snacking and drinking that showcases the produce and drinks.

There are pop-up food outlets from chefs including interstate talent such as Danielle Alvarez (late of Fred's) and Tasmanian author and chef Analiese Gregory; a celebration of Gippsland milk with That's Amore and Gippsland Jersey; cakes by Mali Bakes; pub favourites at classic Art Deco watering hole The Travellers Rest Hotel; and entertainment including Mia Wray, Grace Cummings and Dorsal Fins on the main stage.

Get up early and get yourself down to the monthly Warragul Farmers' Market at the gorgeous Civic Park, where the farmers of the region will be moving their excellent produce - organic vegetables, artisan bread, preserves, fresh fruit, plants and more. For more information and to book, visit Embla x Hogget Kitchen page.

Gippsland Farmers' Grazing Brunch

With an unmistakable village feel, glorious heritage buildings and a deluge of shops to potter and browse, Yarragon's charms extend well beyond a leg-stretch on the highway. Get your caffeine fix from one of the many cafes, then slowly wander the boutique clothing shops, antiques, vintage and retro collectables, homeware and gift stores that jostle for space along the main street.

Pop into the oh-so-quirky Trafalgar Holden Museum to see one man's devotion to vintage cars. It's not just about the automobiles - there are saddles, military artefacts, golf carts and aero engines.

Between Trafalgar and Thorpdale, you'll pass two spectacular waterfalls. Narracan Falls, wider than it is long, boasts a short-but-thunderous drop. Morwell River Falls is a hidden delight down a gravel road where a short walk from the car park winds along a series of cascades, ending where the largest fall opens into a wide pool. For more information and to book, visit Gippsland Farmers' Grazing Brunch page.

Alejandro Saravia - Fire and Wine

If you can find room in your belly for more, have dinner at the Travellers Rest Hotel in Thorpdale, offering classic pub favourites complemented by some international influences, all served with warm country hospitality. Plus downstairs they are distilling their very own vodka (it is potato country after all). We recommend sampling the house-made vodka in an espresso martini.

Wake up with a Winemaker

Stock up on your picnic needs from the Thorpdale Bakery, famed for their pies and vanilla slice. Travel along the Grand Ridge Road, one of Victoria's great scenic drives, until you arrive at Mt Worth State Park. Breathe in that earthy scent of rainforest goodness on lush fern-filled walks. The picnic-primed park has scenic spaces to enjoy your bakery spoils.

If you make it to Garfield before 2.30pm, we strongly recommend popping into Cannibal Creek Bakehouse & Cafe. Stock up on fresh handcrafted sourdough loaves and flaky pastries baked in the century-old wood fired Scotch oven. The heritage building is a beautiful space to get a caffeine perk, made by dedicated baristas.

Your return trip to Melbourne wouldn't be complete without a visit to Cannibal Creek Vineyard. The cellar door offers a personalised tasting experience of the award-winning, French-inspired wines. You can stock up on local produce to take a taste of the region back home with you. For more information and to book, visit Wake Up with a Winemaker page.
