By BawBaw Shire Council - 26th March 2003 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said The Baw Baw Shire Council last night chose Cr Geoff Davey as Mayor for 2003/2004.
In accepting the position, Cr Davey said it was both a privilege and an honour to once again represent the Baw Baw community as Mayor. He thanked his fellow councillors for having the confidence to bestow upon him such a vital role.
Cr Davey has a long and proud history in local government both as an officer and as an elected representative. He was the first Mayor of the Baw Baw Shire, serving two terms from 1997 to 1999.
"I intend to draw upon my experience in local government to represent the Shire to the best of my ability," he said. "The key to this role is having a successful team to work with and I am confident that I will have the support of the council and the staff."
He also acknowledged his wife Heather and his family for granting him a "leave of absence" to carry out the duties of Mayor.
Cr Davey impressed upon the councillors that there was much to be done over the coming weeks. He noted the Corporate Plan, 2020 Vision Statement and budget as just some of the issues to be tackled in the short term.
He also pledged a strong commitment to the process of community consultation saying that community input into decision-making can only benefit the Council as the decision makers.
In closing Cr Davey once again formally thanked previous Mayor Cr Ian Clark for his work over the past twelve months. He also acknowledged and thanked the three retiring councillors, Michael Fozard, Karen Stoll and Bob Turner, for their dedication.
"I am looking forward to a busy and happy year representing the Baw Baw community."
