By news@gippsland - 16th April 2025 - Back to News A new Changing Places facility will open in Lakes Entrance tomorrow, providing accessible, safe, and private change room and toilet amenities for people with disability and high support needs. The new facility is part of East Gippsland Shire Council's ongoing work to create inclusive public spaces across the region. 
The Changing Places facility in Lakes Entrance will open to the public tomorrow, 17 April 2025 Enabling inclusive communitiesMayor Cr John White said the Lakes Entrance facility would make a meaningful difference to many residents and visitors. "This is about dignity, inclusion, and making sure everyone can be part of community life." "A Changing Places facility means families who live with high support needs can enjoy a day at the beach or a walk along the foreshore without the stress of not having suitable facilities nearby. We want all our towns to be welcoming and accessible, and this is an important step in making our communities more inclusive, enabling people of all abilities to participate in public life," John said. Inclusive facilities openChanging Places toilets are larger than standard accessible toilets and include specialised equipment such as a height-adjustable adult-sized change table, a ceiling hoist, a centrally located peninsula toilet, an automatic door, and more space for circulation and carers. Facilities are accessed using a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK), allowing 24-hour access. The Lakes Entrance Changing Places facility is jointly funded by the Victorian government's Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and East Gippsland Shire Council. While an official opening event is planned for later in the year, the facility has been made available ahead of the Easter and Anzac Day long weekends to ensure it could be used during this busy period.
