as many people as possible to look at the draft plan and provide feedback.

"The plan, developed by the Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee, has been available for comment since early April and we have extended this to 18 May 2012," said Mr Piasente.

"We have received some very useful additional information from community members and are grateful for their input. The period for comment has been extended for a few weeks giving people a further chance for input," continued Mr Piasente.

"We are looking for information about past fire events and feedback on communications about bushfire preparedness. Locals know their patch really well and we realise that they are aware of assets we may not have included in the plan, so this type of information is also very helpful."

The extension has allowed the emergency management team more time to get out into the community, to speak to local groups and hold face to face interviews with stakeholders.

Mr Piasente explained there has also been a major change to the information available on the website.

"The plan follows a standard, state-wide structure ranking assets such as natural assets, community halls and other facilities by risk of bushfire. This makes it a complex document to search through when you are looking for information about your own township or area.

"To make it a bit easier to find local information, we have sorted the plan into smaller, geographic areas based on local fire brigade coverage. We’re sure this will make it easier for people to find the section of the plan they are looking for," said Mr Piasente.

Display copies of the draft Bass Coast Municipal Fire Management Plan and feedback packs are available on Council’s website at all Customer Service Centres and Bass Coast Libraries.
