Design A Logo To Celebrate Sister Cities Month Latrobe City is celebrating sister cities month this July with an exciting Chinese Festival logo design competition and information displays at Latrobe City libraries in Moe, Morwell, Traralgon and Churchill. By Latrobe City Council - 6th July 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City’s international relations officer, Yuki Poole said that to help celebrate sister cities month, residents are invited to design a logo to support the annual Chinese Festival.
"The Chinese Festival has been held annually since its inception in 2005. It is a day to celebrate the sister city relationship with Taizhou City, China and brings people of all ages and backgrounds together to enjoy the exciting Dragon and Lion performance along with Chinese cultural activities," Ms Poole explained.
"This year, we are running a competition for a new logo to use when promoting this event. The competition is open to anyone in the community and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs.
"The logo should symbolise Taizhou City and/or China, and should include the names of both Latrobe City and Taizhou City. This is a great chance for the creative members of our community to come up with a design that is vibrant, exciting and encapsulates the spirit of both China and Australia. We are looking forward to receiving many entries for the competition," Ms Poole said.
"First prize is a Chinese calligraphy box set and dinner voucher for two and second prize is a dinner voucher for two," Ms Poole added.
"To get some inspiration for the competition, why not visit one of Latrobe City’s libraries in Moe, Morwell, Traralgon or Churchill to see the displays of written information and photographs depicting the relationships with both Taizhou and Takasago City in Japan," Ms Poole suggested.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Tony Zimora said that the activities in July are aimed at raising awareness of Latrobe’s sister city relationships and the sister city program in general.
"The sister city program is about giving opportunities to people in the community, especially young people. By promoting our relationships with Takasago City in Japan and Taizhou City in China, we all benefit from the sharing of cultural ideas and information. The sister city relationships have also created opportunities for travel for the young people of Latrobe City, Takasago and Taizhou through their involvement with music and sport," Cr Zimora said.
"We would encourage residents to visit the library displays and learn a little more about our sister city relationships and the benefits of cultural exchanges of ideas and information," Cr Zimora concluded.
For more information on sister cities visit the Latrobe City website on www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/About/International/SisterCities.
The logo design competition is open to any resident of Latrobe City and the winners must sign over the rights to the logo to Latrobe City Council for complete and unrestricted use.
Entry forms are available from all Latrobe City libraries and entries must be submitted to any Latrobe City library with an entry form by Friday 28 July 2007.
