"SportIndex 04"Danny Eddy, a guitarist and vocalist with a wealth of experience, is performing at the Latrobe Regional Gallery on Friday 3 December, from 6pm to 7.30pm, as the last act in this year’s Box Office Events season. By Latrobe Shire Council - 12th November 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Performing Arts and Venues Coordinators, Kathleen Roberts said that Danny looks to bring something different to his audience.
"Years of playing countless pubs and even more weddings have caused Danny to reject the standard and the safe. The songs that seem to be the staple of every guitarist in every venue, every other night of the week hold little fascination for this twisted troubadour. Consequently he has the most diverse set list you’re ever likely to hear from one guy," Ms Roberts said.
"Danny loves labouring to bring less likely hits to life on the guitar. You should check out his brilliantly adapted medleys of those traditionally keyboard-drenched 80’s hits. People don’t even realise what they’re singing along to – it’s like trying to bring out the soul inherent, but not obvious, in an overlooked melody," Ms Roberts explained.
"He also adores attempting the seemingly impossible – such as his solo acoustic guitar take on Bohemian Rhapsody. It’s the ultimate song. He just wanted to see if he could pull it off," Ms Roberts said.
Ms Roberts said that Danny revelled in the ridiculous, taking on absolutely anything from Britney Spears to Barry Manilow.
"He tears apart the most cringeworthy classics and turns them into funked up fun. It all started when someone challenged him to play some Holly Valance. ‘Kiss Kiss’ translated beautifully to the acoustic guitar, and it was funny too," Ms Roberts explained.
Ms Roberts added that Danny was a complete entertainer who clearly enjoyed interacting with his audience.
"Danny loves silencing a room with some true musicianship and then seeing the audience crack up at something totally dorky," Ms Roberts said.
"Danny plays solo, with his immensely popular duo Battered Sav featuring Martin Tullet on congas, and with local band The Duskers. Battered Sav are regulars at Dex Star Bar in Traralgon and are definitely an act worth catching – just for the suprises in store. Abba to Zappa, it’s all fair game, so come along and a fun evening," Ms Roberts concluded.
