Danny O'Brien urges action as Leongatha patients await access to medical records after clinic closureDanny O'Brien says former Leongatha Healthcare Clinic patients still lack access to medical records, urging faster action while health authorities work with Rail Trail Medical on a resolution. By news@gippsland - 30th June 2026 - Back to News Patients affected by the closure of Leongatha Healthcare Clinic are still waiting for access to their medical records. The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien said while the opening of Rail Trail Medical was a positive outcome for the community, many former patients remained frustrated by ongoing delays in accessing important health information.

Danny O'Brien welcomed Rail Trail Medical but urged faster action to help former Leongatha Healthcare Clinic patients access delayed medical records after the clinic's closure "The establishment of Rail Trail Medical has been a great result for local healthcare and I commend the doctors and staff who have stepped up to support our community. However, many patients are still waiting for access to their medical records and that uncertainty is causing significant stress for people who simply want access to their own health information," Mr O’Brien said. Records access delayedNoting the issue is predominantly a matter between a private clinic and patients, Mr O’Brien recently wrote to Health Minister Harriet Shing seeking assistance to help resolve the issue. In her response, the Minister confirmed that the Department of Health, Gippsland Primary Health Network, the Health Complaints Commissioner and Rail Trail Medical have been working together to identify options to facilitate the transfer of records and support continuity of care. While welcoming that work, Mr O’Brien said patients were understandably looking for progress. "I appreciate the efforts being made behind the scenes, but many people are still waiting for answers. For affected patients and families, this isn’t just paperwork." "These records contain important medical history and information needed to support ongoing care. I know how stressful this situation has been for many people across Leongatha and surrounding districts and I will continue working with all parties to help achieve a resolution as quickly as possible," he said. Patient records resolutionThe Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath said she had also been working with the Minister and Department officials to ensure the issue remained a priority. "This is a unique and complex situation and I appreciate the work being undertaken by the Department of Health and Rail Trail Medical to identify a pathway forward." "It is important that efforts continue so affected patients can gain access to their records and have certainty about their ongoing care. I will continue advocating on behalf of local patients to help progress a resolution," Ms Bath said. Pictures from Melina Bath MP Facebook page.
