More Lifesaving Projects to Get Underway Around Gippsland
Lifesaving road safety infrastructure projects continues next year.
Some of the most dangerous roads and intersections around Gippsland will be made safer next year as the Andrews Labor Government continues its unprecedented investment in lifesaving road safety infrastructure.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said $226 million in safety upgrades would be delivered on regional roads next year, including hundreds of new projects that will get underway.
This will see the largest number of road safety projects being undertaken across the state reaching more communities than ever before.
Next year more than 340 kilometres of new safety barriers will be installed across the state to prevent head-on and run-off-road crashes.
Safer intersections:
Safer intersections are on the way for the Gippsland community with the following upgrades:
- Toongabbie-Cowwar Road and Weir Road Intersection safety improvements by extending the median safety barrier and upgrading of signs including installation of speed limit signs on the approach to the intersection.
- Bloomfield Road / No 1 Road Intersection safety improvements by upgrading signs, tree removal and linemarking.
- Bloomfield Road / Old Sale Road Intersection safety improvement by removal/replacement of signs including advance warning signs on east and west approach, linemarking with stop signs and linemarking and speed limit reduction to 80km/h within 400m from the main road.
- Monash Way / Junction Road / Hazelwood Estate Road Intersection safety improvements by reducing the speed limit to 80km/h within 400m on the approach to the intersection; upgrading signs including replacement of warning signs, installation of hazard and give-way signs; tree trimming to increase visibility; installation of perceptual linemarking on Junction Road; and refresh linemarking at the intersection.
- Monash Way / Brodribb Road Intersection safety improvements by upgrading the give-way signs and installation of warning sign, refresh linemarking; and speed limit reduction within 400m on the approach to Monash Way
- Churchill-Traralgon Road / Loy Yang-Morwell Road Intersection safety improvements which include speed limit reduction to 80 km/h speed limit within 400 m on the approach to the intersection, relocation of hazard and directional signs, install/replace warning signs, and refresh at the intersection.
- Moe-Glengarry Road / Maryvale Road (Brown Coalmine Rd / Tanjil E Rd) Intersection safety improvements by installing warning signs, removal/trimming of vegetation on south-west corner of the intersection to improve sight distance, and reduction of speed limit to 80 km/h within 400 m of the intersection on the main road
- Maryvale Road / Old Melbourne Road Intersection safety improvements by linemarking installation including edgeline, centreline, painted chevron island and around the roundabout, and upgrading of signs including installation of direction sign, replacement of direction sign, and removal of hazard marker sign.
- Darnum-Allambee Road and Bona Vista Road and Parkers Road Intersection safety improvements by permanently reducing the speed limit on all approaches to the intersection to 80 km/h, installation of warning signs, and trimming of vegetation at the intersection.
Community Gateway:
The Gippsland community can look forward to experiencing a safer road into towns with prominent township signage and line marking at entry points to remind drivers they are entering a town and need to slow down. Entry points include:
- Boolarra 3 locations
- Churchill 3 locations
- Thorpdale - 3 locations
- Trafalgar 2 locations
- Tyers 3 locations
- Yallourn North 2 locations
Safer Travel on Local Streets
Local streets will be made safer with the following upgrades:
- Connor/Whitton St, Warragul: Construction of kerb out-stands and line marking works
- Young St area, Drouin: Construction of new roundabout including pedestrian priority crossing and traffic calming
- Moe CBD Area Wide Traffic Calming including speed limit reduction. Treatments include pedestrian priority crossing and intersection improvements including kerb outstands and pedestrian refuges.
- Morwell CBD Area Wide Traffic Calming including speed limit reduction. Treatments include pedestrian priority crossing and intersection improvements including kerb outstands and pedestrian refuges
- Traralgon CBD Area Wide Traffic Calming including speed limit reduction. Treatments include pedestrian priority crossing, pedestrian operated signals and intersection improvements including kerb outstands.
All these upgrades are part of the $1.4 billion Towards Zero Strategy.
